Conversation Success!

So I play a MMO called Lucent Heart. The english version shut down so the US players have to play the japanese version.

To find a conversation partner, I sent random people whispers: 英語はわかりますか? (do you under stand english?)
I got ignored once, got a response the second time which was, 分からないません。 (I don't under stand)

Third time is the charm. I don't understand the kanji for his user name so i asked him. he said 'GIN' 吟  so 吟さん and I partied up. we talked mostly in broken english, and a few of my attempts of japanese. one was "私はたすけです!” which i was trying to say "i'll help" he didn't correct me so I guess I did alright. after doing a few quests, I took notice that it was past the time I go to bed. So I said "私はねむりです。 ごめんなさい。 (I'm getting sleepy. I'm sorry)  and he understood! he said 'SLEEPY?' I explained in English that it was 9PM in the US where apparently it is 10AM in Tokyo Japan. We said next time we're both online, we'll chat more and said おやすみなさい to each other. Well his response was with out the なさい part. And I logged off.

Upon writing this blog entry I find that I made an utter fool of myself but am proud I found someone to chat with. Maybe one day I can convince him to get skype. I have reached one of my goals today, which was to make a friend who'd help me learn. And in the process I got to see a LOT of kanji.

Well to my non-existant readers. Demonskid / おにこ / 鬼子  is signing off for the night.

おやすみなさい!!!

Goals and Other Things

It is time I wrote down my goals. Baby steps are the way to learn Japanese, so I am going to write things down, step buy step. I just hope the shiny things don't distract me.

Goal List

  1. Learn 5 kanji a week.
  2. Practice writing the kanji and kana I've already learned daily.
  3. Learn the different te forms.
  4. Learn the difference of polite and inpolite ways of speaking.
  5. Find a Teacher/Study Partner
  6. Practice Speech.
